Solar hot water systems use the sun's energy to heat water. They are generally the cheapest system to run, however their high purchase cost means they have an average pay back period of approximately 5-7 years*. All Solar systems come with a gas, electric or solid fuel booster to supply adequate hot water during periods of low sunshine. Solar collectors are located on the roof of the home and connected to a storage tank on the roof or ground level. Ground level tanks are sometimes preferred because they provide a clean roofline. Solar hot water systems are an environmentally friendly alternative to gas and electric systems and government rebates are offered in many states in and effort to encourage their use.
